Why my cause, more than ever, is Buganda and Buganda alone

A nationalist. That is what President Museveni called Katikkiro Jehoash Ssibakyalwayo Mayanja-Nkangi. I believe he says Mayanja-Nkangi was a nationalist, because Mayanja-Nkangi agreed in the mid-80s to join the NRM in its bush war to unite Ugandans. In my opinion, Museveni concludes that this means Mayanja-Nkangi must have been working for a unitary Ugandan government.

My two cents’ worth: Kabaka wa Buganda ow’Ennono may not sell or rent Mengo Lubiri

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga is a lawyer who has been intimately involved in negotiations between Buganda and Mr. Museveni since 1993. As a Muganda he should know that the English title Kabaka of Buganda, which the NRM...

My two cent’s worth: Ennono is the lifeblood of Buganda

The oral history transcribers at buganda.com tell us many things. They have made it simple: log on and Buganda’s history and culture come alive. We are less and less inclined to books, which is unfortunate, but the...

My two cents’ worth: Museveni could win without open Election Day vote-stealing

Several election news reports in Uganda suggest that President Museveni might cheat openly in the elections on February 18th. However, I believe that he could garner the most votes, even without cheating openly. That is because, as...

My two cents’ worth: Baganda will achieve true political power if they adopt a new way of thinking

In my opinion, we Baganda should stop thinking that we must, first, secure national political power, perhaps through a friendly Uganda president, in order to achieve economic development and success. In the 18th century, Jews had no...

My two cents’ worth: Baganda beware, win or lose, Museveni cannot hand over power to Besigye or Mbabazi

Kiiza Besigye, a Mukiga from Rukungiri in Kigezi, Amama Mbabazi, another Mukiga but from Kanungu in Kigezi, appear to command approximately equal shares of Baganda support in 2016 as does Yoweri Museveni, a Munyankole from Ntungamo in...

My Two Cent’s Worth: Mmengo Should Explain to Baganda Why Mbabazi can be Trusted

“I want to promise you that our government will open discussions with Buganda on the return of Federo and all other Buganda property when it comes to power,” Amama Mbabazi said on November 9, 2015. He was...

My Two Cents’ Worth: Katikkiro Mukasa Was Behind Many “Mwanga II Executions”

Ssekabaka (departed King) Danieri Mwanga II is notorious for having executed the 22 Uganda martyrs. However, most of this notoriety should go to his Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Mukasa. For example, as soon we shall see, Mukasa guaranteed...

My Two Cents’ Worth: Kawunga, Bijanjaalo and Gen. Saleh’s Newsworthy Story

On March 4, 2015, BugandaWatch (BW) ran a story about General Salim Saleh’s donation of 300 bags of kawunga (maize meal) and 50 bags of bijanjaalo (beans) to Mmengo on February 23, 2015. The BW story was...

My Two Cents’ Worth: Gashumba Only Re-energizes Baganda Self-determination Fight

Frank Gashumba started the year mocking Baganda. He called them casual laborers (abapakasi), a label he knew would irritate Baganda and offend them. From the comments posted at BugandaWatch in response to the story about his tirade,...
